Lukas Musumeci holds a degree in law from the University of Basel, where he subsequently worked as a research assistant specializing in constitutional and public international law. His early research focused on transparency in international organizations, addressing questions of institutional accountability and openness within global governance structures. Motivated by his enthusiasm for teaching, he developed a scholarly interest in higher education didactics and legal didactics.

In 2013, he joined the Center for Legal Teaching in Hamburg, where he continued to combine research and developping teaching innovation. He is now based at the Hamburg Center for University Teaching and Learning, where his work focuses on writing didactics and legal education. He is currently co-editing a textbook on Doing Legal Research, which brings together perspectives on methodology, epistemology, and academic practice in law. In addition, he trains early-career teachers in legal didactics at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hamburg.

Lukas Musumeci regularly teaches as a visiting lecturer at the universities of Rostock, Kiel, Flensburg, and Osnabrück. He received the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching from the University of Basel in 2011. Together with Anton Sefkow and Marten Borchers, he co-directs the project Innovation by Legal Design Thinking, which is presented at this conference. The project has been supported by several grant programs and was awarded the University of Hamburg Teaching Award in 2025.
